Red Brasov and the new man
The communism tour in Brașov is not a classic one, nor is it for everyone. It is a niche tour, dedicated to those curious to delve beyond official history. We will discuss both Romania in the context of the Eastern Bloc and the Cold War, as well as life inside the country: state policies, how they were perceived by the people, and the small strategies for everyday survival.
We will explore the working-class neighborhoods built for the “new man,” visit former factories and the traces they left in the city, discovering places that are rarely seen as tourist attractions today.
We will explore parts of the city that preserve the traces of a vanished system, but are still present in the urban structure and architecture imposed by the regime.
This tour is an experience of exploration and reflection, an incursion into a past that is still alive but difficult to understand without going into the field, where Brașov hides its less visible facets.
